Members joined with researchers, program administrators, government officials and others to discuss the status of adult numeracy education and to determine future directions. The conference was co-sponsored by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nctm.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM)<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.literacy.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Center on Adult Literacy (NCAL)<\/a>, and the Office of Vocational and Adult Education of the U.S. Department of Education (now the <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.ed.gov\/about\/offices\/list\/ovae\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education<\/a>). Forming the Network was a voluntary commitment by the practitioners to continue the work of the conference at the grassroots level where teachers and students meet. The Network adopted a constitution and by-laws in April 1995, at its first Annual meeting in Cambridge, MA. In April 1998, the ANN became an affiliate-at-large of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ANN publishes a tri-annual newsletter called <em>The Math Practitioner<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"186\" height=\"119\" src=\"https:\/\/www.terc.edu\/tian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2021\/02\/simple_sabes_logo.png\" alt=\"SABES logo\" class=\"wp-image-16\" style=\"width:140px;height:89px\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Are you an adult education teacher in Massachusetts?
